No update yesterday due solely to the fact I didn't watch any TV. This will happen from time to time. Two shows to cover today, including one that I can almost guarantee I'm the only reading this and watching it.
In looking online for the picture above I found lots of websites questioning the validity of Storage Wars and the whole auction genre. With claims raging from them bringing in truck loads of things to sweeten lockers to all the cast are actors and friends "putting one over" on the public. To these claims I say this, who cares? Almost everything you see on TV is a half truth at best and your watching this to be entertained. Would you want to watch a show where every single episode all that happened is people bought lockers full of trash? I feel that all the people on the show are real locker buyers and have real stores to sell the stuff they buy. Do they hate each other? Probably not. Are they bringing in stuff to make the locker seem like a better score? I'll never know and it really doesn't matter to my enjoyment of the show. If I stopped watching any show that wasn't 100% honest about how things happen, I would be left with nothing to watch. The only thing that seems fake that I find off-putting is the number and kind of cars that they imply Barry owns, and who knows he may be a crazy car guy.
I say all that and then they air two episodes where no one has any magic score, half the people lose money and the only ones who really score big do it through nickle-and-dime tactics which I'm sure are how one makes a living buying storage units.
In case you didn't realize that is the logo for Celebrity Big Brother UK 2012.
I enjoy watching reality shows from other countries. It's interesting to see how different a show with the exact same concept can become by just small tweaks and changes. It can be kind of like going into a different dimension where everything is the same, but somehow different.
Big Brother is by far the most different of all the various reality shows I watch. The American version is all about the game play, with the producers crafting the story that they want to tell even if it isn't reality. Where as the British version is all about the experience and anyone who even seems to be trying to play the game is shunned and usually sent packing rather early. I would love to see a hybrid version where the show is shown in more of the British presentation style but with the American game play. Nominations and voting would follow the American game, but the public would also always have a vote.
A few things you should know about BBUK:
1. It's a daily show. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to recap it. I don't think I want to write about it everyday, but a weekly recap might not be enough.
2. I have to "acquire" the show from various sources and sometimes it can be tricky to get a hold of.
3. The show goes on for a long time and lots of times I tend to lose interest (or lose my source) and give up watching 3/4 of the way through. So don't be too upset if a month from now I tell you the show is no more.
I had planned on giving a person by person account of all the house guest, but it can be summed up as this: The house guest is a celebrity in the UK who is famous for singing/dancing/acting/being a model (pick one). Oh and Michael Madsen is there too.
Maybe tomorrow I'll go a little more in depth after I see the highlights from the first day.

Re: Storage Wars. I had not heard any of those claims. TMZ caught Barry a few weeks ago and found out that his family business was some Cali produce conglomerate. I've got a soft spot for Barry. It is a bit suspicious, though, that there are so many coins this season. wtf.
