"Sweating Bullets"  Air Date  2-14-12

This show is fun to watch just to see Colby try and do his best Jeff Probst impersonation.  I wonder if he asked him for advice or is just aping  his style from what he remembers from all the times he's played Survivor.

I didn't realize there was a "pro shooting league".

Every season there are two girls on the show.  They always somehow wind up on different teams and almost always are two of the first people to go home.

Interesting first challenge, it's possible that everyone could get a bulls-eye and two people would still be going home.

I like the way they divided the teams much better this year than last.  Even Vs. odd will work out better than  the winners vs. losers system of last season.

The challenge is built on accuracy over speed.  That's the kind of thing that should have been apparent before it started, not half way through it.

The elimination challenges on this show are always pretty cool.  I'd have to think that most of the contestants would want to do them just for the fun experience of some of the crazy things that they will get to do.  I wonder if sometimes they let them try it after the cameras have stopped filming.

Greg kind of turned into a D-bag after the competition was over.  He really didn't have much room to be so cocky, since he is a trained solider and he hit the same amount of targets as Frank who was completely self taught.

"Ain't Love Strange"  Air Date 2-14-12

I'll let you in on a little secret.  Cougar Town is one of the better comedies currently airing on TV.  It had a bit of a rocky start, but after a few episodes abandoned the original concept of an older women trying to date younger men and instead focused on her and her friends and neighbors.  This change was great since the cast quickly became well rounded in their roles and all seem to jell really well together.  The jokes are usually rapid fire and more hit than miss.  Think of this show like Scrubs, but with the wackiness meter only turned up to about 85% instead of 100% like it would get to on Scrubs.  If reading this blog inspires you to only start watching one new show that I watch, please let it be this one (If however you would start watching two make the second one be Community, but we'll talk about that when it starts airing again).

I say all that about this show and then they air one of the weaker episodes since the first few of the first season.  I watched some of the two hour block that aired last weekend and it was rapid fire jokes that had me rolling in the aisle.  This episode didn't cut the mustard, hopefully they got all the rust out of their system and next week things will be back on track with the normal level of excellence that this show can deliver.

The engagement better lead to some fun and not change the tone of the show.

"Jess and Julia"  Air Date 1-31-12

Did I miss something? Where did the lesbian friend come from? Was this her first appearance or am I not remembering her from before?

Man, I watch two of my favorite wacky, quirky comedies back to back and neither of them delivers.  This might have been the worst episode of New Girl that has aired.  Hopefully Lizzy Caplan is signed up to be a long term guest star and this episode will end up being like "Kim Kelly is my friend" from Freaks and Geeks, where the girls don't really get along at first but by spending time together and bonding they learn to like each other.

The stuff with the towel at the end kind of made up for the lack luster episode.

 "The Concert" Air Date 2-15-12

Another mediocre comedy, but this one usually hovers right around the level of average, so it wasn't as big of a disappointment as the last two.

Who hasn't seen a police radar speed monitor and wondered if they could run past it and get a reading?

If this show had taken place during May sweeps, I can almost guarantee that there would have been an appearance by Justin Bieber.  I wonder if the episode was pitched with that in mind and when he turned it down they just filmed it anyway.
